Deputy Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos will take over as New York City's schools chancellor.
The announcement was made at the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice.
During the announcement, Schools Chancellor David Banks thanked the people of New York for the opportunity to serve. Mayor Eric Adams said Banks showed up every day and gave it his all.
Banks announced Tuesday that he's retiring by the end of the year due to personal reasons. He is the fourth person in city administration to announce their retirement in the past few weeks.
This all comes amid a federal investigation into City Hall that has impacted several top officials, including Banks, who had his phone seized.
