A manta ray was spotted feeding close to shore, just off the coast of Jones beach. The State Parks Department says they live in warm waters but can also show up in New York waters during the summer months. The department says they eat large quantities of zooplankton. Manta rays can live up to 40 years and weigh over 4,000 pounds.
