A man has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison for attacking a tourist with a knife at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office says officers patrolling Terminal A witnessed 56-year-old Xiong Jin approach a woman and strike her in the face with a three-inch blade on Aug. 25, 2024.
Police arrested him without incident, and the 36-year-old victim from North Carolina was hospitalized for treatment.
Jin pleaded guilty to attempted murder on June 8, 2026. He is required to serve 85% of that sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Prosecutors also say he was adjudicated as a persistent offender due to his violent criminal history.
