A 54-year-old man was fatally stabbed on a subway platform in Coney Island Tuesday night.
Police say the victim was attacked at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station shortly before 11:20 p.m.
Witnesses initially called 911 to report an assault, but by the time officers arrived, they found the man with a stab wound to the back. He was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As of now, authorities have not determined what led to the stabbing. The incident adds to growing concerns about transit crime in the area, with police data indicating a 21% increase in such incidents within the 60th Precinct this year. Out of 24 reported incidents, 16 occurred at or around the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station.
Investigators are actively searching for a male suspect who was last seen fleeing the scene. Police encourage anyone with information to come forward.
