A man is facing charges related to the death of a woman found inside a South Brunswick home late last year.
Authorities say South Brunswick police received a call for a welfare check at a home on Redwood Court on Dec. 7.
They say the officers found 47-year-old Veronica Jones unresponsive inside the house. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say that 25-year-old Khadir Jones was identified as a possible suspect. They say that Veronica Jones and Khadir Jones knew each other and that this was not a random act to violence. Authorities did not disclose their relationship.
Khadir Jones was arrested on Dec. 7 and charged with desecration of human remains.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday that Khadir Jones was now charged with first-degree murder.
Khadir Jones is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
Prosecutors are asking anyone with information or surveillance videos of the area to call Detective Benbow of the South Brunswick Police Department at 732-329-4646 or Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4274.
