Police say an Edgewater Park man was arrested in connection with a sexual assault and kidnapping that happened in Franklin Township earlier this month.
According to authorities, Walter Robinson is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman on March 3. Franklin Township police say they responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting the assault.
The victim told police she had previously been in a romantic relationship with Robinson, which ended in 2024. She said the two were speaking earlier that night when Robinson told her he planned to come to her home. She told him not to come, but police say he showed up anyway.
Investigators say Robinson made a sexual advance toward the victim, which she rejected. The victim told police Robinson then grabbed a knife from inside the home and threatened to kill her.
Authorities say Robinson allegedly held the woman in her home and sexually assaulted her multiple times over the next 12 hours.
Somerset County prosecutor John McDonald says a Superior Court search warrant was carried out at Robinson’s home in Edgewater Park on March 4 by the Willingboro Township SWAT Team. Robinson was taken into custody without incident.
Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and Franklin Township Police searched the home and say they found a knife that matched the victim’s description of the weapon used during the assault.
Robinson is now facing charges, including sexual assault and kidnapping, along with several other related offenses.
