A homeless man has been arraigned on burglary charges for allegedly breaking into two Mastic Beach homes and assaulting the elderly women inside.
Derrick Clancy, 42, is accused of committing the assaults Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 on two women in their 70s.
According to court documents, Clancy admitted he tried to rape one of the women, allegedly saying she “put up a good fight.”
Clancy is a registered level three sex offender. He has a rape conviction from 2000, and a robbery conviction from 2011.
His attorney entered a not guilty plea. A mental health evaluation will be performed.
Clancy is being held without bail. He’s due back in court Nov. 20.
