A man with a criminal history is accused of inappropriately touching young girls at T.J. Maxx in Medford.
At First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, 44-year-old Jimmy Harry VelasquezGomez pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to court documents, VelasquezGomez squeezed the buttocks over the clothes of a 9-year-old girl in October, and a 7-year-old girl and 11-year-old girl
at the same T.J. Maxx in April and in September.
According to prosecutors, his residence is in Honduras – but VelasquezGomez’s defense attorney said he has lived in Suffolk County for five years.
VelasquezGomez, who has a prior public lewdness misdemeanor conviction, is being held on $50,000 bail for each felony charge.
Detectives ask anyone who believes they were a victim to contact the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6184.
“It’s shocking to parents and really startling to a child or a teenager who has no understanding of what's happening,” said Laura Ahearn, executive director of the Crime Victims Center.
News 12 spoke with shoppers outside the T.J. Maxx where the alleged incidents happened. They said when they're shopping with their kids and grandkids, they don't let them wander and they keep a close eye on them.
“Just always watch them. Don’t trust anybody,” said Jean Valva, of Bayport.
“Be vigilant,” said Ahearn. “Don't let your child or teen walk around the store unaccompanied because sexual predators are looking for that opportunity."
