Sebastian Zapata, the 33-year-old man accused of setting a sleeping woman on fire on a subway car in Coney Island, was sent to the hospital overnight. His arraignment has been delayed as a result, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.
According to the NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, Zapata is no longer in the hospital. The reason for the hospitalization has not been released.
Zapata, a migrant from Guatemala, was previously deported in 2018 for entering the country illegally. It is unclear how he re-entered the US.
A group of high school students recognized Zapata, leading to his arrest.
