A U.S. Navy officer has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the murder of his wife, a Monroe woman killed while he was deployed in Japan, according to military officials and her family.
Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Olsen pleaded guilty to unpremeditated murder during a Navy legal hearing in San Diego on Sept. 10. Officials say Olsen was also dismissed from the Navy, ordered to forfeit all pay and allowances, and required to pay restitution for his wife’s funeral expenses.
Olsen’s wife, Jessica “Jesse” Olsen, 37, was killed last year while the couple was living overseas during his deployment.
A Navy spokesperson confirmed the sentencing, telling News 12:
“Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Olsen pled guilty to unpremeditated murder of his wife, Jessica Olsen, at a U.S. Navy legal hearing on Sept. 10 in San Diego. He was sentenced to 23 years of confinement, dismissal from the Navy, and total forfeiture of all pay and allowances.”
The victim’s sister, Dominique Arguinzoni, tells News 12 the family received $10,654 in restitution — the cost of Jesse’s funeral — but says no amount of money can heal their loss.
“The sentencing offers some measure of accountability, but it will never equal the life that was taken from us,” Arguinzoni said. “We are relieved that the court recognized her voice, but our family’s work is not finished. We will continue to stand for Jesse and fight for justice in her name. For us, this journey is not over — our fight for Jesse continues.”
