The Mamaroneck Memorial Day parade, a tradition honoring fallen service members, was canceled this year for the first time in 30 years due to a shortage of volunteers, according to American Legion Post 90.
The event required eight to 10 volunteers, but not enough were available, American Legion Post 90 said.
"The membership has gotten a lot older, they're not physically able to do a lot of the stuff that has to be done, and the new guys aren't signing up," said Chet Edwards, the post service officer for American Legion Post 90.
Edwards urged new members to join to continue the legacy and sustain future events.
The next event needing volunteers is Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
