James Mehalakes and Courtney Bowe started off as lovers, but they broke up. Now, the former couple runs a business together called 'My Boyfriend's Clothing.' They design embroidered hoodies, joggers, and T-shirts and promote healthy relationships.
"I lost many of my favorite hoodies to girlfriends or significant others, and I wasn't the only guy being the one that lost their favorite hoodie," said James. "My Boyfriend's Clothing was started because we know the trend of girls taking their boyfriend's hoodies."
"We're essentially trying to promote healthy and happy relationships," said Courtney. For Courtney, it is more than feeling comfy and cute. Before the former couple met, Courtney had been in toxic relationships. "I have been in emotionally, verbally, and physically abusive relationships, and I think our brand speaks to me because it makes me feel that I have something of my own."
Now, the exes are bringing warmth and affection to a serious topic. "We're going to partner with domestic violence shelters and new initiatives to support those in need, and it's our way of showing love and care beyond the brand," said Courtney.
Right now, the business runs out of James' Mt. Sinai house. He hopes they can one day move to an office.
