        Long Islanders step up to help those affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton

        Long Islanders are collecting items to help victims of Hurricanes Helene and MIlton.

        Long Islanders are stepping up to help following hurricanes Helene and Milton, which devastated parts of the South.
        Donations were being collected behind The Cop Shop in Massapequa by Lions of the Massapequas.
        The items will be headed to North Carolina in the overnight hours.
        When the work there is done, it will be onto Florida, organizers say.
        Hope Floats Long Island is having a Stuff-A-Truck event on Saturday outside the Stop & Shop on Montauk Highway in West Babylon.
        Members of the 103rd Rescue Squadron based out of Westhampton Beach have boots on the ground in Florida.
        Capt. Brian Alfano told News 12 they’re helping with collapsed structure extrications.
        They’re experts in various rescue techniques.
