Person to Person and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County are once again teaming up with the National Letter Carriers Association for Stamp Out Hunger.
It is one of the biggest food drives for these organizations all year. The event is happening all over the country.
This Saturday, fill a bag with non-perishable, non-expired food items, such as canned proteins, pasta, cereal and peanut butter. No glass jars.
You may get the bag from your mail carrier. Place the bag by your mailbox this Saturday morning. Your letter carrier will collect and deliver your donation to local food providers.
It was created to address a critical gap in donations that many food banks experience after the holiday season.
“Now what we see is the people that come to us, they’re really relying on us every month for food, so it’s much more urgent than it ever was. If we don’t have food for people, people go hungry,” said Person to Person CEO Nancy Coughlin.
The local food pantries are hoping to bring in 50,000 pounds of food.
