Connecticut lawmakers approved controversial new homeschooling regulations late Monday night, passing the bill on a 22–14 vote. Three Democrats broke with their party to vote against the measure, but it still cleared the chamber.

Beginning in fall 2027, families will not be allowed to withdraw a child from school if there is an active Department of Children and Families investigation. Lawmakers advanced the change following high‑profile child abuse cases in which parents falsely claimed their children were being homeschooled.

The original bill required homeschooling parents to submit their curriculum to their local school district, but that provision was removed after significant backlash, including from some Democrats.

The legislation now heads to Gov. Ned Lamont.
