Gov. Phil Murphy is attempting to calm the nerves of millions of New Jersey residents who have been worried about mysterious drones seen flying over the state’s skies for the past several weeks.
The governor addressed the issue on News 12 New Jersey’s Ask Gov. Murphy program.
“I want to be crystal clear about this…now we can say this, based on the most sophisticated drone detection systems on the planet that started to arrive in New Jersey on Friday and Saturday, there is no public threat here. Period. I can say that unequivocally,” Murphy stated.
The governor said that he has been speaking with the federal Department of Homeland Security about the issue.
It is still not clear who is flying the drones or why – but the governor reiterated that they pose no danger to New Jersey residents.

“Take a breath and know that you are safe,” Murphy said.
But he did say that the incidents are troubling, adding, “The part that should worry everybody out there is the vulnerability that we as a nation have to drone incursions…We must address it sooner than later and New Jersey is not immune.”
In response to the drone issue, the Federal Aviation Administration imposed a temporary ban on drones flying over 22 areas in New Jersey, citing "special security reasons."
