A boat will be off the coast of the Jersey Shore this April deploying what are known as reef balls.
It is an effort to make sure New Jersey’s section of the ocean remains a thriving place for marine life – an effort headed up by teenager Jeffrey Weis, of Flemington.
The state approved Weis’s Eagle Scout project to build an artificial reef off the coast.
Weis was responsible for all aspects of the project from design and assembly, to putting the reef balls into the water. They will go into the ocean near the Barnegat Inlet this sprint.
