It was an eventful evening in Stamford, as police and animal control swarmed a section of the city in search for a bear on the loose.
“You might meet a couple of coyotes or little wolves here and there, but nothing like this," Zach Deleo says. "It’s crazy."
Viewer videos show the injured bear darting through the neighborhood Monday afternoon near the corner of Old Colony Road and Bouton Street West.
A woman who lives nearby on Minivale Road said the bear walked through her front yard, leaving paw prints in the grass and then passed underneath a fence to get to her backyard.
Some neighbors went about their business as usual, but they did have a heightened sense of concern.
“Everybody’s a little nervous with the little kids," Mary Iodice says. "This bear, I think it might be hurt, so that’s what’s making people a little more anxious about it."
Stamford officials say anyone who sees a bear should call animal control at 203-977-4437.
“I’m hoping it’ll get healthy," Matthew Sansone says. "I hope it’s healthy, and all the dogs and kids are safe too as well."
