The heat is not stopping Long Islanders from having fun at events and festivals across the island this weekend.
An air quality alert and heat advisory will impact parts of the island this weekend. Those heading to outdoor events are preparing themselves for the heat.
"I have a backpack full of water," said Jenika Jarvis, of Nesconset. "The kids were off and it's really hot and we wanted to ride the Ferris wheel, and all the traditional rides, the merry-go-round, bumper cars, skee ball. You know, make memories."
The Long Island Fun Fest will spend one final weekend at Suffolk Community College In Brentwood and have a fireworks display Saturday night. Dreamland Amusements General Manager Bobby Belan says they have cooling stations throughout the fest for people to rest in.
"There are some misters that we run during the peak hours when it's hot,” he said.
Also this weekend is the inaugural Long Island Yoga Festival in Glen Cove. Founder Jason Samel says yoga is a great way to overcome things in life, in this case it’s the intense heat.
"Try to stay hydrated and everyone is going to do that, especially today,” he said. “Just keep cool and take breaks if you need them.”
The Long Island Yoga Festival runs all weekend long and the Long Island Fun Fest wraps up on Sunday.
