An incoming Saint Elizabeth University student-athlete was fatally shot by police responding to a report of a possible break-in in Pennsylvania over the weekend, authorities said.

Saint Elizabeth University confirmed to News 12 that Glenwood Pysher IV, who was killed early Sunday in Upper Pottsgrove Township, was preparing to attend the Morris County university and join its baseball team.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Upper Pottsgrove Township police responded at 12:29 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a possible break-in at a home on Snyder Road.

Police found Pysher behind the residence, according to the district attorney’s office. Authorities said an “encounter ensued,” and police opened fire, fatally striking him.

The district attorney’s office did not provide additional details about what occurred during the encounter before officers fired.

The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is investigating the shooting under county protocol for officer-involved shootings.

“The Saint Elizabeth University community is heartbroken by the tragic passing of Glenn ‘Bubba’ Pysher, who was preparing to begin his journey with us as a student-athlete and member of our baseball team,” university President Gary B. Crosby said in a statement.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Glenn’s family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved him. We hold the Pysher family in our thoughts and prayers as we mourn a young man whose life and promise were taken far too soon.”

The university said counseling and support services are available to students.
