Long Island's immigrant community has questions regarding law enforcement's relationship with Immigration Customs Enforcement.
Make the Road NY says the move "will only serve to increase the fear that members of our communities feel every day."
Patrick Young, who teaches immigration law at Hofstra Law School, says these actions can create a level of mistrust in law enforcement among immigrant communities.
Meanwhile, the NYCLU says in a statement, “Any partnership with ICE sends the message to immigrant communities that local law enforcement is not there to protect them, but is instead targeting them for deportation. Immigrants enrich Nassau County’s culture, economy, and communities — they deserve to feel safe and protected."
