A Port Chester neighborhood is on high alert after residents say potential thieves went digging through cars in the area.
Several neighbors showed News 12 Ring camera footage of these incidents, which occurred around 4 a.m. on Saturday on and near Tower Hill Drive.
"It was very eerie knowing someone was on our property while we were sleeping," says Sheri Arnett.
Arnett says her husband's car was one of several that was rummaged through.
"My husband went to run some errands in the morning and when he went into his car, everything was rummaged through and there was stuff all over the front seat," Arnett tells News 12.
Other neighbors said their security cameras captured someone trying to open car doors to see if they were unlocked.
"If the door was locked, they just moved on, but if it was unlocked, they rummaged through the car," says a Port Chester resident.
There's no word from police right now on the exact number of reports that have come in.
They posted this message to the police department's Facebook page:
"Recent overnight thefts from parked vehicles in the Tower Hill area of the Village lead us to send this reminder out. We will continue to have increased patrols in the above area. It appears that the thieves target mostly unlocked vehicles. Port Chester is not alone in this matter. Numerous towns have these similar issues on a continuous basis. We urge residents to remember to lock their vehicles and take anything of value. Also, report any suspicious activities to PCPD."
