Hudson Valley chiropractor, wife accused of possessing ‘obscene’ images depicting child sexual abuse

State police say they first began investigating the couple after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Boyle and Scofield were exchanging indecent material involving minors online.

A prominent, award-winning chiropractor in Ulster County and his wife are facing a slew of felony criminal charges related to possessing and distributing images depicting child sexual abuse.
A four-month state police investigation resulted in the shocking arrests of the well-known Kingston couple on Tuesday, 33-year-old John Boyle, a physician with Boyle Family Chiropractic in Kingston, and his wife, Danielle Scofield, who is also 33 years old.
Boyle is charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 17, possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16, promoting a sexual performance by a child less than 17 and possessing a sexual performance by a child less than 16.
Scofield is charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance of a child less than 17, possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 and possessing a sexual performance by a child less than 16. State police previously arrested her last October when they say an initial investigation allegedly found her in possession of child pornography.
The Ulster County District Attorney’s Office says the couple were found with hundreds of images depicting child sex abuse. They say some of the images were shared to others by text and through social media platforms.
According to a Times Union report, prosecutors said during their arraignment in City of Kingston Court on Tuesday that some of the images depicted necrophilia, beastiality and bondage - possibly involving children as young as 4 years old. State police have not confirmed that information.
State police say they first began investigating the couple after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Boyle and Scofield were exchanging indecent material involving minors online.
Boyle and his wife pleaded not guilty. He was ordered to be held at Ulster County Jail on $200,000 bond, which was immediately posted. Online records also show Scofield was not remanded to the facility.
Scofield declined to comment at the couple’s residence. Neighbors tell News 12 the couple have two young children and that police were recently seen at their home.
“I saw a bunch of cops and FBI. There were a lot of cops and people in suits,” says one neighbor who asked not to be identified.
Vincent Scala, an attorney for Boyle, told News 12 that he has yet to receive or review any of the evidence and that he does not want the case to be “tried in the press.”
An attorney for Scofield has not returned our request for comment. We have calls out to state police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office for more information.
Business websites for Boyle Family Chiropractic on John Street indicate Boyle cares for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients and treats infants for conditions ranging from colic to problems with latching.
News 12 called a phone number for the practice on Wednesday and left a message for Boyle on an answering machine. A man who lives in the mixed-use building says the practice stopped seeing patients at the location in October.
“He hasn’t been here. I’ve never met him,” says Paul Alexander. “It’s like a ghost town in this building.”
A photo on their website indicates Boyle previously won an award for top chiropractor in the Hudson Valley.
