HEAT ALERT: Heat wave begins today on Long Island

Our hottest stretch of weather in several years is possible the next few days. We also have air quality issues. Here's the latest on how long it will last.

An Air Quality Alert has been issued for poor air quality due to elevated ground ozone. In addition, a Heat Advisory is in effect today with heat index values expected to reach near 100F.
Even hotter weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday. An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for Nassau and Western Suffolk counties on Monday and Tuesday. Heat index values could reach 105F.
TODAY: Hazy, hot, and humid. High temperatures near 90 with heat index values near 100F. An isolated thunderstorm is possible late morning or early afternoon.
MONDAY: Very hot. High temperatures in the low 90s, heat index values around 100F.
TUESDAY: Very hot. Record high temperatures for June possible. Highs in the mid 90s, heat index values near 105.
WEDNESDAY: Hot. High temperatures near 90. Afternoon clouds with a stray shower possible in the evening.
THURSDAY: Seasonable with clouds and a passing shower. Highs in the low 80s.
END OF WEEK: Clouds and less hot. High temperatures in the upper 70s with a passing shower.
