A Passaic County fire department is hoping to send some much-needed relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene.
The Hawthorne Fire Department has been collecting non-perishable food, hygiene items, emergency kits and much more for the past three days. The donations will be sent to Asheville, North Carolina for people impacted by the hurricane.
The department partnered with Operation Kindness NJ, a nonprofit that helps those in need, who will deliver the items.
"If it's an opportunity for our members to show that we care and the residents care, obviously you can see what happens. We had a great outpouring of people who care,” says Chief Jose Speranza.
This is the second trailer of items to be delivered to those down south.
