All right, we made it to Friday. Time for Main Street, Connecticut, a chance to showcase all our local towns and cities have to offer. Today we're in the city of Stamford. News 12 Connecticut's Mark Sudall is at Cove Island Park for us, Mark. Becky, it is beautiful here this morning. Low humidity, it's not hot, it's a nice breeze and just look at the shot here of the sound right now. I'll tell you what, if you ever have the chance before work someday. Come on down here to Cove Island Park, take a little walk, take in the sights. It's really, really something to see here. I want to introduce you to Bob Mazzoni with Sound Waters here in Stanford. Thank you for the time this morning and tell us quickly about Soundwaters. Well, we have been in. 35 years teaching students about 25,000 kids a year about the science of Long Island Sound. So if you think this is beautiful, that is what we're trying to maintain. We're trying to keep a healthy sound, a healthy environment, and these days a lot of what we teach is climate science because the challenges that our young people are gonna be experience as they grow up are gonna have are gonna be global challenges. That's right. And uh so that's a lot of climate science that we teach and we work with schools up and down Connecticut about uh. 65 different communities in Connecticut and a whole lot of kids year round and it's, it's, this is, this is environmental education. This is hands on education and when you get to bring kids into this water, uh, well I'd like to say you want to know anything about a horseshoe crab? As a soundwa student and you're gonna be bringing a lot of people into the water tomorrow for a big flotilla event. Tell us about that. One of the goals of Soundwaters is to connect our community to the sound, and here we have an opportunity. To put 150 people in kayaks and on paddle boards, and they're going to launch right here at Cove Island and they're going to paddle about 4 miles down the coast in Stamford Harbor and they'll put up on another Stanford Public Park, Puti Park, and it will be a great morning on the water and it's probably about we launch at 9 o'clock right here. It's a big bright, colorful flotilla of people enjoying themselves on Long Island Sound, and people can still sign up. They can still sign up. We launch tomorrow at 9 o'clock. Come and sign up on site. You got to have your own kayak or paddle board to do it, but we'll be here and we'll be ready for you and uh it's a whole lot of fun. This is your number 9 for the event. Oh wow. And you said you even have a rest stop on the course halfway through. We actually have a boat out there and it's a rest stop. So if you want to stop and take a breather and have a drink and and meet some of your fellow paddlers, that's the place to do it. Now we don't advise drinking and boating, but you know, I mean, hey, maybe get a soda. Maybe maybe get some non-alcoholic beverages out there. So what's this experience been like for people? I mean, they must love this. They love it. We launch. It is calm and beautiful usually at that hour of the morning, and it's a chance, I like to say, to paddle in long distance on the sound and you don't have to paddle back. That's the key. We bring everybody back here. Um, we bring people on buses, we bring their boats on, on trucks, and so you don't have to fight any currents. You don't have to fight any tides. You get to take a long, beautiful paddle with a whole lot of people, and then we enjoy some good food and beverages. At the other end and then you can relax because we'll take care of the rest. I hear you have some food there that you're not gonna share with me, is that right? No, that is not true. I'm gonna save it for you. Actually just started last night. It's kind of like a live at 5, like to the next level I guess. If you will, PJ Kennedy from Hey Stanford is here with us this morning. Thank you so much. You are like Mr. Stanford. You're all over the place. I try to get out there. You really do. Yes. So this started last night. Tell us about some of the acts you got coming through here. Yeah, absolutely. So Summer in the Park kicked off last night with Busta Rhymes. It was an amazing show here. Several 1000 people in this park. Hard to believe. Yeah, and now we transformed tonight. We kick it off tonight with Raise Your Hands, a Bon Jovi tribute. Love it. Next week we have Soldier Boy, Bow Wow, Ali and AJ, who is an old former Disney stars that have a great pop duo right now. You've got a Jersey Boys group. Jersey Boys, the Jersey Boys, the original cast of Jersey Boys is coming here on Sunday night. That's a free show for the community. I mean, come on, yeah, we're really excited about that. People got to come down for that. That's amazing. So how did this all come together? For the last 8 years with Parachute concerts we've been producing the Hay Stanford Food Festival. Alive at 5 ended their run after many great years this past summer was the last run, and we saw an opportunity to take advantage of providing the community some fun engaging activities down here in the park. We partnered here with Mill River Park, Stanford downtown. The carp family and some great sponsors to bring this all about. So how can people get tickets? They could go to Sumerinthepark.com. OK. We have all the information on there. Every Friday night is a live tribute act. There's a Jimmy Buffett tribute act next week, a Zack Brown. Jy Buffett. Buffett. So we have some really fun things. There's really something for everyone. So it's pretty much through the month of July, through the month of July, yeah, 3+ weeks of beer gardens, food vendors, live music, and like I said, there's something for everyone. Wow. Anything else you got in your back pocket actually come early August, Nicky Jams is coming to the stage also, which is a huge reggaeton star. He's going to take the stage.
