A Hampton Bays man has been found guilty of assaulting two police officers after leading them on a chase in Oct. 2025.
The Suffolk District Attorney says the incident began after a Southampton Town police officer responded to a call for service at Terrell Harris’s residence.
A database check revealed that he had a revoked license and active warrants for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and driving while intoxicated.
Harris fled the scene in a Ford SUV when the officer arrived, prompting a search that lasted around an hour.
The officer later found him parked outside the Hampton Bays Library. As he and another responding officer approached, Harris drove off at a high rate of speed once again.
Harris was pursued by police and eventually traveled back to his home driveway, where he became combative and punched both officers repeatedly.
The two officers were injured, and additional personnel were called to help subdue him. Prosecutors say the officers were treated for their injuries at Peconic Bay Medical Center.
In addition to assault, Harris was also convicted by a jury of resisting arrest, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.
He faces up to seven years in prison when sentenced next month.
