Three gyms in the Glen Cove School District have reopened following a project to replace floors containing high levels of mercury.
The replacement occurred at the high school’s auxiliary gym, as well as the middle school’s upper and lower gyms.
This comes after air quality testing detected mercury levels nearly four times over the state limit.
The superintendent says handheld air quality testing has since been conducted in all three locations and the levels are back down to zero.
