Fairfield Ludlowe High School is taking on a haunting story this fall with its production of Carrie: The Musical.
Based on the Stephen King novel, the show follows a shy teenage girl who faces bullying and isolation until she discovers she has telekinetic powers. The production aims to spark conversations among students about belonging, kindness and the impact of exclusion.
"I think right now there couldn't be a more important message to and we want every student to feel like they belong when they come to high school. And when they can see a story about the consequences when that doesn't work out, I think it's a really good learning experience,” said Dr. Greg Hatzis, head principal of Fairfield Ludlowe High School.
Director Christy Newsom praised the young performers for their passion and professionalism saying, "This is scary material, but they have just dove in feet first and we're so proud of them. They've been doing an amazing job, we get full body chills and we just sit here and cry watching them."
Performances run Oct. 24-26 and again Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Tickets are available now.
The high school's drama club partnered with Fairfield CARES to collect donations at all five performances to help launch a town Youth Council in town.
