East Main Street in Yorktown provided the backdrop on Sunday for the community's show of pride and patriotism during the community's annual Veterans Day Parade.
The event in Shrub Oak honors all who have served and protected the nation in times of war and peace.
Veterans in the crowd expressed their thanks for the recognition of their sacrifices.
"We appreciate it very much and I'm very happy to see these people who turn out, especially the young people who were out here marching. It was wonderful to see them," said Korean War veteran Michael Negrelli.
"I attend every year, this is a pretty good turnout. I feel dedicated, I feel proud," added Viet Nam War veteran Al Roskosky.
Evan Creque, of Mohegan Lake, used the parade and the special ceremony that followed as an opportunity to teach his 9-year-old son Kyrie the importance of patriotism.
"It's a sign of respect for those who put their lives on the line for our country," he explained.
