A man from Freehold Borough accused of shooting a 27-year-old in the face last month in Jackson Township has been charged with attempted murder, according to Ocean County prosecutors.
Prosecutors say 26-year-old Michael Vulpis shot a man in the face on June 27 while the victim was being assaulted. Prosecutors say the victim and another female were sitting in a parked vehicle outside of a residence on Larsen Road. A blue sedan then parked in front of the vehicle and blocked it in.
Authorities say two men exited the sedan, approached the vehicle and knocked on the window. As the victim was exiting the vehicle, prosecutors say one of the attackers began to strike him. During the assault, Vulpis shot the victim in the face and then ran away.
The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of his injuries and later released.
Vulpis was arrested Wednesday in Freehold and is currently in Ocean County Jail pending a court appearance. In addition to attempted murder, Vulpis is also facing several weapons charges.
