A new Frank Pepe's Pizza location in Stamford is now open for business at the Bull's Head Shopping Center.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons cutting the ribbon on Monday.
"It's a big name in Connecticut Pizza and Connecticut pizza is the best in the world. I remind New Jersey of that every time I see them," said Lamont.
Frank Pepe's two granddaughters were also on hand for the opening.
"This has been a project that has taken a while to come to a reality and we are very honored to be here," said Bernadette Bimonte-Hackett. "And we are so honored and proud that we could share our love of pizza," said Lisa Cusano.
The doors opened at 11 a.m. at the 64 High Ridge Road location. Frank Pepe's now has 17 locations along the East Coast. For anyone who doesn't know Pepe's Pizza – it’s a world-famous tomato pie, coal fired New Haven pizza.
"We have the same coal fired oven that we have in New Haven. It's absolutely amazing. It weighs 108,000 pounds and it's the only cooking appliance in the entire building," said Sean Barry Pepe's Director of Operations.
Some would say it's the best they've ever had. Next year, Pepe's will be celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The new Stamford location will look and feel like Pepe's original Wooster Street location. In addition to its many Connecticut locations, Frank Pepe's also operates in Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and Florida.
The Stamford location will provide 50 new jobs for Stamford. It is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
