A former Washington Township middle school teacher has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault after a former student reported a relationship that allegedly occurred while the student was a minor, authorities said.
Ashley A. Fisler, 36, of Washington Township, was arrested Thursday and charged with six counts of sexual assault of a minor, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of official misconduct, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said.
According to charging documents, the victim, now an adult, reported Jan. 23 that they had an unlawful sexual relationship with Fisler while she was their teacher at Washington Township Middle School.
The victim described multiple sexual encounters in 2021 that allegedly occurred in Fisler’s vehicle and inside her classroom.
Investigators later obtained text messages between Fisler and the victim that authorities said confirmed the sexual nature of the relationship.
Fisler is no longer employed as a teacher in Washington Township or elsewhere, officials said.
If convicted, Fisler faces up to 20 years in state prison on each first-degree sexual assault charge and up to 10 years in prison on each second-degree charge.
