A community effort in Bergen County is expanding the minds of readers with different abilities.

The library at the New Concepts of Living Achievement Center is celebrating its opening this week in Paramus.

This has been a nearly 2-year-long project for Kim Catalfamo, a parent volunteer. Prior to volunteering with the center, Catalfamo worked as a special needs teacher. Catalfamo put expertise to good use by creating a library for participants to use and socialize.

"I always believe that everybody can do anything with a little bit of adaptation," Catalfamo said.

This was a community effort. Catalfamo worked with other families, organizations and the participants to put it all together.

"I can't wait to start reading," said Christina, a participant of the NCFL Day Program.

Catalfamo says her work on the library isn't done. She will continue to find new books for the library and hopes to one day bring in authors to read to the participants.
