Another New Jersey town is adding extra security measures when it comes to electric bicycles and scooters. New rules are being laid down in Florham Park.

For instance, you may ride in the right-hand side of the roadway with the flow of traffic and should use bike lanes when they are available. However, e-bikes are prohibited on sidewalks or town parks or fields.

Helmets are required to be worn for all riders under 17 years old. Congressman Josh Gottheimer is calling on New Jersey to ramp up efforts on making e-bicycle riding safer for pedestrians, as sales have jumped 75% since 2024. Locals in town see the difference.

Florham Park is a safe place, but you need to be careful nonetheless a fair amount of traffic and I think some of the people who are riding bikes might not know the rules they go a little fast, a little erratic," Howard Madison, Florham Park resident.

Other towns such as Fairfield , Montclair and Hackensack also adopted similar changes.
