The threat of a Long Island Rail Road strike has subsided for now, but there is another challenge that riders may soon face.
The MTA board will vote this fall on its proposed fare changes. As News 12 has reported, the plan would increase LIRR weekly and monthly tickets by 4.5%.
This week, the public comment period came to an end. An MTA spokesperson declined to provide a specific date on when a final vote may take place.
Several state lawmakers, including Sen. Jack Martins (R-Old Westbury), are calling on the MTA to hold off on increasing fares.
If approved, the fare increases will take effect early next year.
