Delays and cancellations are increasing at airports across the country as the federal government shutdown continues.
The FAA says more flights will be cut, which can cause more frustration among travelers.
Many travelers told News 12 they have been getting alerts on their phones all day about delays and cancellations. Some of them fear they will not get to their final destination and lose their money.
"We were supposed to fly out first thing this morning, and our flight was canceled last night, which was very hard to rebook it, put us into a little bit of a tailspin we've been planning this vacation for months," a passenger said.
This has been the issue for many travelers at Newark Airport trying to get to their final destination.
Difficult times also for air traffic controllers who have not been getting paid for weeks and calling out during the shutdown. Newark is already at about 7% reduction on flight departures. The FAA says that number could go up to 10% this week.
