A Target in Flatbush has implemented a new policy requiring anyone under 18 to be accompanied by an adult. Signs posted at the entrance of the Triangle Junction location state that all guests under 18 must have an adult with them while shopping.
This policy follows a similar move by a nearby McDonald’s, which recently began restricting entry to customers under 20 unless accompanied by a parent. That change came after reports of student behavior concerns at the fast-food location.
The Flatbush Nostrand Junction Business Improvement District says these policies are meant to manage the after-school crowds, as hundreds of students from three nearby high schools flood the area all at once.
"This rowdiness could lead to people hurting themselves. And we’re just taking preemptive steps to avoid anything drastic happening," said Kenneth Mbonu, executive director of the Flatbush Nostrand Junction BID.
News 12 has reached out to Target for comment and is working to confirm more details about the new policy.
