Fire officials say crews were called to a house fire on Merrick Avenue in East Meadow Sunday just after 10 a.m.
The first units found flames in the kitchen and attic of the two-story home.
According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office, a person who was inside was able to get out safely.
News 12 spoke to neighbor Jason Badlia, who described what saw.
“We looked in, and it was completely pitch black. It looked as if it was a movie scene, almost like just completely charred, it was, and the smell, it still resonates now,” he said.
Fire officials said crews brought the blaze under control within 45 minutes.
