Fire officials ID 2 people killed in New Rochelle apartment fire
Fire officials identified the two people who died in a Friday morning apartment fire in New Rochelle.
They say crews found 47-year-old Maria Arreola and her son, 26-year-old Andrew Salomon, during a search of an apartment.
Officials say first responders performed CPR on both mother and son but neither survived.
Fire occurred at 30 Eastchester Road just after 6:30 a.m.
The building, which is directly across from Iona University, was used as a quarantine location for students during the coronavirus pandemic in 2021.
Fire officials believe the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and do not deemed it suspicious.
They added the building owner sent a cleanup crew, and the building owner was working with the Red Cross and the Fuller Center as of Friday evening to help displaced residents.
