A fin whale that washed ashore in Barnegat Light Friday was examined by the Marine Mammal Stranding Center and Cornell University, who conducted a necropsy.

Preliminary necropsy findings revealed blunt force trauma to the left side of the body. The results were consistent with a suspected vessel strike.

Staffers also found evidence of a previous entanglement.
