A family-owned New Rochelle restaurant is dealing with a major financial loss after thieves broke in and stole more than $30,000.

The burglary happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday at Modern Restaurant & Lounge on Huguenot Street.

Security video shows two suspects breaking through the restaurant's front doors. The thieves appear to use a tool before kicking in part of the entrance to gain access.

The restaurant's general manager says the suspects went directly to the office where a safe was kept.

According to the business, the thieves broke into the safe and made off with more than $30,000.

"You feel violated and the bubble you're supposed to feel comfortable in gets taken away from you," said General Manager Sebastian Aliberti. "We're just trying to figure out where the holes were and what we can do to ensure this doesn't happen again."

Aliberti says the burglary happened in just six minutes.

New Rochelle police say the case remains under active investigation.

Restaurant officials say they are now reviewing security measures as they work to recover from the loss.
