Family and friends of a man who was fatally shot 23 years ago gathered in the streets of East New York Saturday to call on the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office to reopen his case.
Carlos Lopez was 19 when he was shot and killed in Bed-Stuy on May 1, 2003.
Investigators believed he opened fire and killed another man.
His family, however, maintains that he was innocent and caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
His mother, Carolina Lopez, points to a black sweatshirt with no bullet holes that she says was planted on her son's body.
The family is now pointing to newly notarized letters from a witness to the shooting and the victim's sister, which they say support their claim that Lopez was innocent.
"Sometimes I feel like, when my son not here, why am I'm here still living? But I have to because I have grandchildren, I have other children and I want justice for my son," Carolina Lopez said.
News 12 reached out to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office for an update on the case and whether there are any plans to reopen the investigation but had yet to hear back as of Saturday evening.
