A large tree toppled onto Coles Avenue in Mountainside during overnight storms, bringing down power lines and forcing the closure of the roadway Tuesday morning.

Police and firefighters closed the area as crews responded to the scene.

PSE&G crews were working to assess the damage and remove the hazards.

It was not immediately known whether any nearby homes lost power.

Local traffic is expected to be impacted until the tree is removed and the road reopens.

There was no immediate word on injuries.
