News. 12, New Jersey's Kimberly Buck Buck is live from the high society. Now, Kim, what's the tea this morning? I love it. Nick. Good morning to you both. It's just, it just smells like fall in here when you walk through the door. You can see that cozy charm. It's all decorated outside Michael Flat co owner of High Society House. Thank you so much for inviting us. This has been a part of your life for almost 15 years. You start out working here and now you own the place. So tell us a little bit about what you can expect when you walk in the doors. So we do a five course luncheon or dinners and stuff like that. There's scones quiche soup and salad. We also have our different miniature sweets. Everybody gets their own pot of tea and we have over 70 different flavors to choose from. Yeah, it's unbelievable when you walk in, you see this instagrammable wall and it's festive. You have the change for season. Correct? And so you own this with your husband. Correct. And so this is something great for bridal showers, events. You name it showers, special occasions, anything that you could think of. So, it's a staple here in Wayne. Yes. It's been here for almost 20 years now. Yeah. And you said this home is actually 200 years old. Yeah, it was the first Ryerson house in all of Wayne. They founded Wayne. Wow. Yeah, that's something we didn't know before this interview. This is something to check out. So when you're here, it's a shop. It's a dining room. All of the tea and what tea have you started up for us this morning? We have blueberry crumb cake and we also have our chocolate raspberry. Both are black teas and they're two of our most popular. If we have time, we'll have a sie. All right. Yes, I'm excited. So this is the blueberry crumb crate. Uh crumb cake. All right. So hopefully he's not too hot and then this is the chocolate raspberry. It smells just like fall, right? Perfect. Perfect. So in the next segment, we're actually going to be in our in the dining room section at the table and everybody looks for. So cheers to you. And we are at the table in the house that everybody wants and it's really hard to get in here on learning. So you have to book your reservations now. So Michael, tell us about what we have here. This is a, this is a very sweet display. Yes. So we have our scone selection here. Caramel is what we have year round. That's everybody loves and then we have our seasonal scone. That's pumpkins go to the month right now. Yes. And you have a very big event happening this afternoon. Yes. We sponsor Chillin Hospital's breast cancer fundraiser. People come in. There's a five course meal prepared for them. It's from 12 to 2 and then 6 to 8. Yeah, it's a great, it's a great cause and it gives everyone a reason to come out to Wayne. Definitely and we talked about the rich history, especially here. How does it feel to be so connected? You lived in Wayne as well? Right. Yeah, definitely. I never thought in a million years this is what I would be doing. I just love it so much, you know, hosting these events, seeing people smile and bringing people together for it. One thing I will say is it really takes you out of reality. You step in here. It's like you're stepping back into time. It's a really sweet deal and I appreciate you having us in unbelievable. This is so much fun and the tea is absolutely exquisite. I'm having blueberry crumb cake and the chocolate raspberry cake. Yeah, this is awesome. So this is a must see. Uh this is the high tea so high society house in Wayne and it's uh it's something that you're definitely gonna wanna book with friends, family and make sure to book a reservation early. Sure. We fall back into News 12 as we take you to some pretty neat places in Wayne News 12. New Jersey's Kimberly Buck is live with us from Day Mansion, Kimberly George Washington's old stomping grounds. Nick. Exactly. It's a gorgeous morning here as we wake up in Wayne and I'm here, joined with John Bartlett, the director of Dimension. Thank you so much for having us. It's a beautiful crisp morning. Tell us a little bit about what we need to know about, Sir George Washington. Sure. Well, this is the dimension. Washington's headquarters in 1780 was built here in Wayne in 1772 by Tunis Di and he was a Dutch merchant who then became a member of the or actually the leader I should say of the Bergen Militia during the revolutionary war. This is the place where in 1780 Washington ran the war effort, uh writing correspondence, receiving meetings from folks all up and down the east seaboard in a crucial year for the revolutionary war. So rumor has it not much has changed? I mean, they literally left where he slept exactly the way it was. The house has been through a lot. But you go inside and you feel like you're stepping back into 1780 because we've done an amazing job of preservation. And uh I'm very excited for folks to be able to come out as we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and rediscover the Washington story and the American revolutionary story here in Passaic County. Well, John, I'm excited to take the tour with you this morning. But before we do that, I want to talk about the history in Wayne. This is a very rich historical area in New Jersey. Absolutely. Wayne is really has, has got so much going on and Passaic County is participating in that in partnership with Wayne township. It's not just the dimension, it's a bunch of other sites. Uh the Skyler Colfax House. You might not have heard of a Skyler, but you certainly heard of his three grand nieces, the Skyler sisters from the musical. All of that history happened right here in Passe County, right here in Wayne. We're partnering between the county and our municipalities to preserve it and continue telling that story to young people and, and to people of all ages. We're excited, John, thank you so much. Right now, fall back into News 12 as we take you to some of the historic places in way in news of New Jersey's Kimberly Buck is live with us this morning from Dimension Kimberly George Washington's old stomping grounds. That's correct. Lauren and Nick. Thank you so much. So we continue our tour of the mansion. So John tell us about this particular room that we're sitting in. So we're sitting here right now in the parlor of the Dye Mansion. This is where Tunis di the homeowner and his family would relax in the evenings. And of course, in 1780 when George Washington was using the Dye Mansion as his wartime headquarters, this would be where George Washington and his aides de camp. Like Alexander Hamilton would sit, play a game of poker, uh talk about the day's events and the war effort. Uh because we're right across the hallway from George Washington's office. That's right. You could actually see the card game that was happening right in front of us. It's funny. So, so many of the relics in this room are preserved from, you know, from the 17 hundreds and some of them were almost like we were hands off, right? It's, it's, it's a museum. So if you could explain that and like how it is on a tour, let's say, for folks to come and visit. Um So folks that come here to visit and, and tour the house are going to see a whole lot of wonderful stuff from that period. From the late 17 hundreds into the 18 hundreds. This was the Dye Mansion for decades before and after uh George Washington's time here in 1780. So you're gonna see wonderful historic restoration. Uh We really lovingly restored this after it had fallen into disrepair. All of the floorboards, for example are from that period and you'll really feel like you're stepping into 1780 you certainly do. I mean, I know I felt that it's very charming in here. Um And you certainly, you know, you keep it immaculate. So as we continue our tour, we're going to touch on some of the many events that are taking place at the dimension both in the fall and the winter, John. And right now, let's fall back into News 12 as we take you to some of the historic places in Wayne News 12. New Jersey's Kimberly Buck is joining us live this morning from Di Mansion, George Washington's old stopping grounds. Kimberly. That's correct. Lauren and Nick, we're finishing up our tour here at the grounds of the Dye Mansion. It is absolutely gorgeous here this morning. It absolutely is. This is the gardens of the dimension, not original to the die period, but actually one of the Olmsted Brothers Garden designs, we just restored it a couple of years ago to the original design. And it's a beautiful folks have had weddings here. Of course, you can see even further behind the passe county golf course. So this is all part of the way that we teach the history of this place when folks come through. So what, what do you see here if you were a visitor, what sites would you see, what would, what would be in full effect, especially this time of year? So we've got obviously all the plantings that bloom year round. Um There's some great stories as you look over behind you. We've got the forge building over there, uh, where you can learn about what it was like when you couldn't just go down to Lowe's for your hardware needs. That's where, uh, you would have had to make back then everything from nails to hinges, to pots and pans. And it's an immersive experience of what it was like to live in that time. Uh, and then we've also got some really unique, interesting stories as we do this work. I'll give you an example right underneath the sun dial that's there in the, in the garden. When we were doing the garden restoration, we discovered the dimensions, privy. So that's their outdoor space for it's a restroom, it's to discard things. And for an archaeologist finding out, you know what a household threw away, he learned a lot about how that household lived. So this is an ongoing archaeological discovery and it's a wonderful place for people to visit year round. And thank you so much for the tour.
