Fairleigh Dickinson University is holding remote classes Thursday after lifting an overnight shelter-in-place order.
School officials say local police were looking for someone who may have had a gun on the Florham Park campus.
An arrest was later made off campus. Authorities have not confirmed if a firearm was recovered.
Following the initial report, all students were advised to remain inside and stay away from windows and doors starting around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
All activities are canceled for Thursday, and the Teaneck campus will also have remote classes.
