The chief operating officer for the Town of Fairfield resigned Friday after he used town funds to purchase a vehicle.
David Becker stepped down after an audit examined his purchase of a $140,000 Chevy Suburban. The audit found that Becker avoided the usual channels for the purchase.
Becker also served as Fairfield's emergency management director.
Town officials say he had 24-7 access to the SUV to respond to any emergencies.
The vehicle has been handed over to the police department and is now part of the department's fleet
