A play-based literacy center in Fairfield is helping kids develop a love for reading.
A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday for
Read play love, which is located on Black Rock Turnpike.
Its owner says the goal is to inspire future readers and bring back the magic of reading through hands-on and multi-sensory activities.
"The concept is really to ground it in play and that's really what the research is showing us, that children of all ages make their most meaningful connections," says Shannon O'Donnell. "This lesson this week, we were learning about apples. Then they made a tree that had letter stickers on it and then they made apple pies out of sensory material."
The center currently offers morning programs for children under 5. They also have afternoon programs, which include individual tutoring and book clubs for students in kindergarten through third grade.
O'Donnell says they would like to expand services.
