Police are searching for a man they say opened fire during a street dispute in Concourse Village Friday afternoon, sending a 37-year-old man to the hospital.
News 12 obtained exclusive surveillance video that captures the moments leading up to the shooting.
The video shows an argument erupting at a stop sign around 3:45 p.m. A man wearing a black jacket and a woman can be seen shouting at the driver of a white van before charging toward the vehicle.
Another camera angle shows the pair chasing the van as it turns onto East 156th Street. Police say the man then unzipped his jacket and pulled out what appeared to be a gun.
Moments later, two men jumped out of the white van holding what appeared to be a pipe wrench and chased the duo into the street, where a brawl broke out. The fight then split into different directions, and police say the man in the black jacket opened fire.
A 37-year-old man was struck in the stomach. First responders say the victim drove himself to the hospital and is expected to recover.
The shooting unfolded just outside two schools, prompting a lockdown, according to students.
“It makes everybody worried,” Said Jamel, a neighbor. “There’s a school, a bunch of kids. People that live in this building got their kids.”
Students leaving school were met with police sirens and crime scene tape as detectives continued searching for the gunman and worked to determine what sparked the altercation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
