Emergency crews were on the scene of a significant water main break that occurred overnight into Monday morning that created a large sinkhole and left local residents without water.
The incident took place in a parking lot outside an apartment building on the corner of Bay 37th Street and Cropsey Avenue. Rushing water from the break appeared to cause a substantial sinkhole, which nearly swallowed a parked Jeep. The hole is now preventing tenants from driving their cars out of the lot.
The Jeep was pulled from the hole and towed away Monday morning.
"It’s scary, but I just hope it doesn’t last too long because we need to shower, some people cook," said Kelly Contreras, a tenant.
The DEP says water is back and running, while some residents tell News 12 some of their apartments are still affected by the water main break.
